Lincoln Community School Child Nutrition Food Services
LCSD’S WELLNESS POLICY REGARDING FOOD,
NUTRITION & PROCUREMENT
The mission of the Lincoln School District is to provide healthy and delicious food to our students. We value fueling healthy minds and bodies as an essential part to student learning and success and are committed to providing the nutrition that best supports growing minds. The food service program at Lincoln Community School has implemented the following practices, procedures and standards:
All of our food will be cooked with an emphasis on both healthfulness and deliciousness that also provides educational benefits around nutrition.
All menus will promote scratch-cooked meals made from fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and clean proteins that also includes plant-forward menu items and exposure to vegetarian options.
LCSD will continue to emphasize the following values for food procurement: local economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, animal welfare, and nutrition. The procurement plan shall seek to eliminate potential harmful food additives, colorings and dyes, high fructose corn syrup, genetically modified foods, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, refined sugar, and artificial sweeteners.
We prioritize accessing local foods wherever possible and practical. In practicing quality food procurement methods, LCSD supports a local and statewide food system that is ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially responsible. We recognize that thoughtful purchasing practices by LCSD have the potential to influence the creation and availability of a local, equitable, and sustainable quality food system.
