August 12, 2024 - Welcome back!

Welcome to the 24/25 School Year!

I have been either going to school as a student or working in schools nearly my entire life!  August and the Back-to-school Season never fails to be my favorite time of year! The weather is still warm outside but the morning and evening air is just a little bit crisper. As we begin to wind down blueberry picking season, we try to hang onto the corn season as long as we can. I find myself shamelessly excited to see all of the back-to-school supplies in stores and I myself begin shopping for my new notebooks and pens. I begin to organize my calendar for the year and I think about what goals I want to achieve this year.

As someone who spends my summer days in the quiet of empty schools,  I have the privilege of seeing the annual transformation of school buildings from the chaos of summer facilities projects to shiny and cheerful spaces eager to welcome our students back. This time of year, I begin to see teachers sneaking back into their classrooms and I get to hear all about their summer adventures. I even begin to spot some students and parents poking about the school, trying to get a peek of their new classrooms.

My wish for each and every one of our Lincoln School District students - whether you are attending pre-school or LCS; you are middle or high school student attending a school of your choice; or whether you are student in a home study program or attending an independent school – is a truly amazing start of the 2024/25 school year!

You are all valued members of the Lincoln School District community.

I know that you will be hearing more details from your school principals about the start of the year, but I thought I would share with you a few tidbits of information which hopefully will help with your transition back to school.

Calendar and Key Dates

You can find the 24/25 School Calendar on the Lincoln School District website.  LCS and MAUSD are following a common calendar this year.  In fact, this year, all of the districts in the northern four counties worked to adopt a common calendar with only minor differences here and there. Having said that, families of middle and high school students should check with their school of choice for any nuanced differences in their school calendars.  Below are some important upcoming key dates:

  • Thursday August 15th 7AM-11AM - LCS Playground clean up.  Come join in the fun and help us get the LCS playground ready for the start of school and share a muffin with us (or two!)  We will be outside that morning water sealing the wood play structures, raking wood chips, and doing a bit of weeding.  We have the paintbrushes and will have some garden tools but if you are able to bring some, please do.

  • Thursday August 22 5-6PM - Welcome back ice cream social/ribbon cutting ceremony for our new multi-purpose room floor.  All preK-12 Lincoln School District students and families are invited to a welcome back ice cream social behind the school. We are also inviting community members to join us for a short ribbon cutting ceremony to show off our beautiful new Multi-purpose Room floor!  We are grateful for the federal ARPA funding for this project!

  • Friday August 23 - MAUSD is hosting a special half day orientation for grades 7 and 9 students. Please look for communications from MAUSD for more details. Lincoln SD will plan to bus Lincoln students to and from that event.

  • Monday August 26  - First Student Day for all schools!

Bus Survey and Bus Routes

We are finalizing the Lincoln SD bus routes for the 24/25 school year for transporting K-6 LCS students and our students in grades 7-12 who are attending MAUSD.  Hearing from you will help us put the final touches on our bus plans.  If you have not done so already please take a moment to complete this short Transportation Survey to help us confirm your information (residence and contact information) and to indicate if you plan to have your student(s) take the bus either to LCS or MAUSD or both.

One important note is that this year, barring extreme circumstances, we are committed to maintaining our route along French Settlement Road throughout the year.

We will continue to run two buses (Big Bus and Little Bus) along similar routes as last year. Please see the two route maps on our districtʻs new Transportation page. We will be adding more details over the next few weeks. Please know that the first few weeks are an adjustment period so it is important that students are out early and that you are patient if the bus arrives a little late.

Staying in Touch

We consider all prek-12 Lincoln students to be our students, not just those attending LCS.  We want to maintain accurate contact information so that we can communicate any district updates, invite you to events, and provide you with those ever important snow day cancellation notices. If you suspect we may have inaccurate information or may be missing contact information, we’d love to hear from you. Please email me directly (acole@lincolnsd.org) with any corrections.

Have an Amazing Start to the 24/25 School Year!!!
