MAY 2, 2024

Happy belated May Day!  In Hawai’i May Day is a big deal and is celebrated in a variety of ways, including with music, dance and handing out lei to those you care about and appreciate as a sign of gratitude.  I think everyone in Vermont and certainly at LCS is grateful for the gift of nice weather and our classrooms are spending much more time outside in their outdoor classrooms.

Announcements:

  • We’ve counted up our snow days and confirmed that the last day of school will be Friday June 14th.  It will be an early release day and Tory and the teachers will share more details with you as that date nears.

  • Our 5th and 6th grade students have been working very hard this week in preparation for the 5-6 class play Adventures of a Comic Book Artist which you are more than welcome to attend.  There will be a 1pm and 6pm showing on May 9 at Burnham Hall.

Reminders:

  • Please remember to check in at the office when dropping kids off late and to check out if they are leaving early.  This is a simple and quick act but one that we hold as critical to ensuring all students are safe.

  • Please remember to drive slowly and cautiously through the drop off/pick up area and be aware of students who may be exiting from other cars from either side of the car.

  • As we think about closing out the year, we are eyeing our ever growing Lost & Found.  Please feel free to stop by or encourage your student to go through the Lost & Found and retrieve their items.

Finally, with the pairing of nice weather and all of the added responsibilities of end of year events, we often see an uptick in student energy, which sometimes translates to student behavior.  We are addressing it on this end by putting in some extra support and reminders to students around regulating their excited behavior, remembering to interact with patience and kindness, and owning their behavior when they don’t always show up as their best selves. We always appreciate parent support with this messaging.  Please take a moment to check in with your child to see how they are doing with all of this extra energy and responsibilities and let us know how we can support your child to have a successful end of the year experience.

Have a great weekend!

Amy
